KANUNGU – The Kanungu District Police have reported a tragic road accident resulting in the death of two individuals and several others sustaining injuries.
The incident took place on Wednesday at approximately 11:00 PM at Kishaka Cell, near Ntungwa Bridge, in Nyamirama sub-county, Kanungu District.
It is alleged that a Beiben Orange-colored motor vehicle with registration number UAZ 392S lost control and collided with a building off the road. This unfortunate event injured seven individuals who were sleeping inside the same house, instantly killing one person and the driver en route to Kihihi HCIV for medical treatment.
Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, identified the deceased as Masereka Eric Kisenge (43), a Mukonjo tribe member, who was the driver and a resident of Bikurungu Town Council, Rukungiri District. The other deceased individual was Kevin, a four-year-old who died on the spot.
Maate disclosed the identities of the injured victims as Niwarinda Godius (24), Atuhiire Monic (21), Prossy (19), Atuhiire Nice (4), Atwiine Brian (2.5), and Atwiine Silvan. All of them are residents of Kishaka Cell, Nyamirama sub-county in Kanungu District.
According to Maate, the Police promptly responded to the incident, evacuated the victims, and transported them to KIHIHI HCIV for medical treatment.
He further stated that the bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the same medical facility’s mortuary for postmortem examination. The motor vehicle involved has been parked at Kihihi Police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Maate emphasized that investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the accident.
