KISORO – Two business individuals in Kisoro District were apprehended yesterday for impeding municipal leaders during the execution of their duties.
Led by the municipal town clerk, Kisubi Ayub, the authorities were engaged in clearing and removing illegal structures along Mutanda road in Kisoro Municipality.
Despite the team’s efforts, some business owners attempted to obstruct the work, prompting police intervention and the arrest of suspects, including Amon along Mutanda Road.
Kisubi clarified that arrest isn’t their goal, but it becomes necessary when someone obstructs their work. As of now, the detainees are held at Kisoro Central Police Station, with no official police statement on the matter.

In the meantime, anonymous members of the public questioned the municipality’s focus on demolishing illegal structures instead of upgrading roads and maintaining cleanliness. Town clerk Kisubi Ayub defended their priorities, emphasizing that sanitation takes precedence. He mentioned that if resources permit, they would address other aspects.

In the meantime, the Bafumbira United Students’ Development Association (BAUSDA) has elected new leaders.
The elected officials, chosen electronically on January 2, 2024, expressed their commitment to improving the living standards of Kisoro students. Outgoing chairperson Nizeyi Benon advised his successor, Nizeyimana Emmanuel, to promote unity and understanding among members.
Reflecting on their past plans, Nizeyi highlighted limited factors hindering the association’s development initiatives. He urged the new leader to engage the working class in Kisoro for support, citing successful activities like free health camps in 2023, supported by individuals such as Hon. Min. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi and others.
Nizeyi expressed optimism that Emmanuel, the president-elect, would excel given his prior involvement in the outgoing executive. Emmanuel, a second-year student at Metropolitan International University Kampala campus, praised his predecessor for laying a solid foundation and thanked the association’s parents and founders from 23 years ago.
