Chapati Maker Electrocuted to death in Kanungu

KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District are investigating the untimely demise of Jonah Turyatunga, a 23-year-old chapati maker, following an electrical incident in Rutwe village, Kihihi town council.

The tragic event occurred on October 23, 2023, around 6:00 PM.

Turyatunga, a resident of Rutwe cell in Kihihi ward, Kanungu district, accidentally made contact with a live wire while attempting to connect power for his daily work.

The resulting electrocution caused severe burns, leading to his immediate demise. Justus Barekye reported the incident to the police.

A statement was recorded at the scene, and the deceased’s body was taken to Kihihi Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stressed the importance of proper training for handling electricity and legal connections.

He cautioned the public against engaging in electrical work without the necessary expertise.

The body was subsequently released to the family for a dignified burial.

The incident has been officially documented as a case of death by electrocution and is registered at Kihiihi Central Police Station under reference number CRB 344/2023.
