KABALE: The Chinese Chong Chuing International Construction Company of China has officially handed over the Kabale Central Market to the Ministry of Local Government.

The construction of this market, valued at 23.8 Billion Shillings, commenced in December 2019 under the World Bank-funded Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Program – MATIP III. Prior to the handover ceremony on Friday evening, a delegation from the Ministry of Local Government, accompanied by Kabale Municipal leaders, conducted a thorough inspection of the market’s readiness. During the inspection, they identified several defects that require rectification before the issuance of a completion certificate.

Eng. Emmanuel Mwebesa, responsible for infrastructure at the Ministry of Local Government, affirmed the overall standard of construction works. However, he stipulated a one-week period for the contractor to address specific defects such as cracks in the Power Pump house sealing and other observed issues before the certificate of completion can be awarded.
