Kamuntu Iron Ore Investment Company on spot for stealing Iron Ore in Kabale

KABALE- Kamuntu Iron Ore Investment Company dealing in extracting and exporting iron ore is on the spot for stealing iron ore belonging to artisanal miners in Kabale Municipality.

A section of aggrieved artisanal miner’s on Saturday 04/03/2023 in Kirwa Cell, Nyabikoni ward, Northern Division Kabale Municipality caught read handed the Rubanda west legislator’s Iron Ore Manager Bruno Byereta and a Kenyan only known as Muhando who is in charge of transport of the company that supplies Hon. Kamuntu’s Minerals to Kenya together with a team of men loading their Iron Ore onto a box-board trailer Reg No. RAC 102K without their consent an act that left them worried and suspicious.

Twasiima Hillary an artisanal miner and a resident of Nyabikoni ward in Kabale Municipality explained that he was shocked by illegal act finding a trailer loading his Iron Ore illegally and forcefully.

Twasiima added that he demands Hon Kamuntu over 68 million which he says that the Rubanda West Legislator denied saying that Twasiima has never supplied to him Iron Ore.

Buregyeya Mpirirwe another artisanal miner told our reporter that she received a call alerting her that some people were loading her mineral on the trailer which forced her to respond about the act immediately.

The former guild president aspirant for Kabale University who works as the Publicity for the Iron-Ore Miners Association Turinawe Henry Watagah said that miners have been supplying their Iron Ore to Hon. Kamuntu Moses Mwongyera but their payments have been mediocre.

Turinawe also said that after Miners started experiencing lousy pay from Rubanda west Legislator, they agreed to form an association that may help them to raise a voice over the poor payment and they were shocked to see Hon. Kamuntu Sending the box-board trailer to load their Mineral without payments and concern.

The area Local Council 1 Chairperson Sasi Charles said that he received a phone call that there is a vehicle loading Iron Ore without Owners authority and when he reached at the scene he decided to chance a way that Box-board trailer.

Charles condemned the act and appealed to the residents to always communicate to his office before doing anything for the purposes of tightening security in his area.

When asked about the matter the accused Iron Ore Manager who is also the LC5 Councilor for Mukatojo town council, Rubanda district Bruno Byereta in few words told our reporter that he doesn’t not know people who chased him from the scene and referred our reporter to the Rubanda west member of Parliament Hon Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera for more clarity.

By the time of filling the story, our reporter tried contacting Hon Kamuntu Moses Mwongyera but his known phone contact was not available.

In December of 2021 the Artisanal Miners involved in the iron ore business and owners of land with mining sites in Rubanda and Kabale Districts accused the Rubanda West Member of parliament Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera of fraud and forceful trespass on their land.

A team of technocrats led by the Asst. Commissioner in charge of monitoring and inspection Eng. Joseph Okedi came on a fact finding mission about the long dispute between Kamuntu Investments Company and the community affected by its mining activities in the region

However, a section of small scale miners from Rubanda and Kabale District accused the Mp of taking their iron ore on credit and failure to pay them.
