KAMPALA – The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament took decisive action yesterday, surrendering city lawyer Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi to the custody of Parliament Police. Katabaazi stands accused of embezzling a staggering sum of 39 billion shillings from the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADs), purportedly intended for the payment of tea farmers in the Kigezi region.
During a session before the parliamentary committee, Mayor Hakiza Nicholas of Rubuguri Town Council, Banyuza Festus, and Bufumbira South’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda, offered compelling testimonies against Katabaazi. The lawyer’s failure to provide a satisfactory account of the disbursed funds became apparent through these testimonies.
Mayor Hakiza Nicholas expressed the significance of presenting their testimony in Parliament, emphasizing its pivotal role in seeking justice for the affected parties.
