RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District have initiated an investigation into the untimely demise of Brother Kato John Bosco, a 56-year-old individual who served as the head teacher of Bishop Comboni College Kambuga.
He was a resident of Nyakatunguru cell, located within the Northern ward of Kambuga town council, situated in Kanungu district.
According to an official statement released by the Police, the unfortunate incident occurred on August 15, 2023, at approximately 2:30 PM. On that day, the deceased, accompanied by his nephew Tunanukye Innocent and a group of students, departed from the college premises in a motor vehicle registered under the number UBA 312R, which was a Toyota Prado.
Their destination was Rukiri Sub county in Ibanda district, where they intended to celebrate the occasion of entering a new residence.
The police report indicates that while en route, specifically in the Omunengo area situated between the districts of Rukungiri and Kanungu, Brother Kato John Bosco experienced a sudden incapacitation that rendered him unable to continue driving.
Consequently, he safely brought the vehicle to a halt and proceeded to switch positions with his nephew, moving from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat. It was at this point that he began to exhibit signs of distress, including vomiting, followed by an abrupt loss of consciousness.
In their effort to seek medical assistance, the group hailed a passing boda-boda rider and urgently requested transportation to Nyakibale Hospital. Tragically, while en route, at Rwerere Town Council, Brother Kato John Bosco passed away.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, confirmed that the deceased’s body was subsequently transported to the mortuary at Nyakibale Hospital. Furthermore, the deputy head teacher of Bishop Comboni College, a gentleman named George Byoruganda, promptly reported the sudden demise of Brother Kato John Bosco to the Rukungiri Central Police station.
As part of the ongoing investigation, statements have been collected from various individuals, including witnesses and individuals who were present during the unfortunate incident.
Presently, the deceased’s body remains at the mortuary pending a postmortem examination at Karoli Lwanga Hospital in Nyakibaale. This comprehensive examination aims to ascertain the underlying cause of Brother Kato John Bosco’s unexpected passing.
