KABALE: The Kabale District Resident Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma has asked local council 1 and 2 leaders in the district to be security vigilant in their communities as the country stands on a high alert to terrorism
Nyakahuma said this on Thursday 22/12/2022 as he was officiating at the handover of 86 bicycles to LC 1 and LC 2 chairpersons in Kabale Municipality at the Kabale Municipal Council Headquarters.
He used the platform to appeal to the Village local councils to take lead on security vigilance in their communities asking them to always hold security community meetings and also report to the security authorities’ strangers they see in their respective areas.
He attributes this security alertness to the village local councils that Allied Democratic Forces ADF rebels have resorted to escaping from the Democratic Republic of Congo and joining the local communities, especially in the Republic of Uganda.
Nyakahuma further asks the public places controllers such as churches, bars, and Hotels among others to be very much keen, especially during this festive season. He asks them to purchase and use metal detectors to search for any cause of threat such as guns and bombs in such areas.
Nyakahuma also appeals to the LCs to use the bicycles sustainably to mobilize and supervise government programs such as the parish development model. He further cautions them not to sell these bicycles in exchange for Money
The government disbursed over 70,000 bicycles to LC1 and LC2 chairpersons in respective districts across the country to assist these leaders in supervising government programs.
