Two Officials Arrested for Soliciting Bribes from PDM SACCO Members in Rukungiri

RUKUNGIRI – The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen on Thursday apprehended two individuals, Mrs. Ayebare Brender, the Nyabitete Parish Chief, and Kobusingye Penelope, the Nyabitete PDM Sacco secretary, for soliciting bribes from members of the Nyabitete Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO in Buyanja Sub County.

These accused individuals allegedly asked for sums ranging from Ugx. 30,000 to 50,000 from victims, promising to help them access PDM funds without adhering to the district’s stringent screening procedures.

As a result of multiple complaints received by RDC Nsubuga, he called a meeting at the Buyanja Town Council offices, gathering Sacco members and Parish Chiefs from Buyanja Sub County to address and put an end to such corrupt practices.

RDC Nsubuga emphasized that such actions hinder efforts to educate and empower people to support PDM initiatives aimed at improving their quality of life. He assured the public that they are collaborating with district leadership and security personnel to eliminate any fraud that might disrupt the effective implementation of PDM.

He warned that additional PDM Sacco leaders in Rukungiri district, who engage in similar practices, will face arrest, as the authorities are well-informed about those involved.

To support the prosecution of the suspects, a general inquiry file has been established, documenting complaints from the affected parties.
