Tragedy Strikes: Student Drowns in Lake Bunyonyi While Attempting Escape from School

KABALE – A student at Lake Bunyonyi Secondary School, Kitumba Sub County in Kabale District has drowned in lake Bnyonyi while trying to escape from School after being denied Permission.

The deceased has been identified as Martin Izabayo, a senior two student from Kisoro District.

According to the school headteacher, Nicholus Kajumba, the deceased together with his friend identified as Daniel Owamani also Senior two students from Bubare subcounty in Rubanda District had escaped from the school after being denied permission.

Kajumba told our reporter that the two drowned while the canoe they were sailing in capsized. He confirmed that Owamani got rescued and he is admitted at Bwama health center 111 whereas the body of Martin Izabayo from Kisoro district is still in the waters.

By Press time, Police had not yet issued a statement of the drowning case, as efforts were under way to retrieve the body of Izabayo.
