59 NUP Supporters Charged for Unlawful Assemblies & Incitement in Kampala

KAMPALA – Police in Kampala have charged 59 suspects to court for unlawful assemblies and incitement to violence during the “One Million March” welcoming NUP President Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi on 5.10.2023.

Guided by the ODPP, 46 suspects in Kajjansi, 9 in Entebbe, and 4 in Kawempe face charges under Penal Code Act sections.

Additionally, 37 suspects in Entebbe are on police bond until 12.10.2023. Kasangati police are pursuing suspects who damaged roads with fire, intending to charge them for road offenses.

Investigations extend to social media and digital platforms to identify other participants in similar crimes.

The 46 charged in Kajjansi include individuals like Nakanjako Ruth, Nakidde Hadijah, Ssewanyana Andrew Samuel, and others, accused of participating in an unlawful procession.

In Entebbe, those charged for unlawful assembly include Katabazi James, Kakooza Frank, and others. Kawempe division saw 4 arrests for inciting violence, including Kanyike Francis and Nakachwa Rebecca.

SCP Fred Enanga urges the public to report any involvement in violent acts associated with the “One Million Illegal March.”
