RUKUNGIRI – In a tragic incident along the Buhunga – Rukungiri Road in Kyemengo village, Buhunga sub county, Rukungiri District, one person lost their life, and four others sustained injuries on 10/10/2023 at approximately 07:50 PM.
Agnes Karuhanga, 34, from Ikuniro village, Kabingo parish, became the unfortunate fatality.
The injured victims include Ainembabazi Dafine, 16, from Farmers Cell, Western Division, Rukungiri municipality; Florah Kakitahi, 36, from Buziga in Kampala; Shantahi, a 5-month-old child of Kamalemba Jacklie; and Kamalemba Jackie, 39, from Farmers Cell, Western Division, Rukungiri municipal.
Reportedly, Kamalemba Jackie was driving a Toyota Corolla (UAQ 220G, gray) from Buhunga towards Rukungiri Town when the vehicle lost control on a slope in Kyemengo village, veering off the road and colliding with a tree.
The occupants were seriously injured and rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, Agnes Karuhanga succumbed to her injuries upon arrival. Her body was taken by relatives without undergoing postmortem.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stated that Corporal Oketayot and the team visited the scene.
The motor vehicle is currently parked at Rukungiri police yard awaiting inspection and inquiries by the investigating officer.
