The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kabale has remanded a 45-year-old businessman on charges of theft involving a motor vehicle worth 160 million shillings.
The suspect, Alex Akankwasa, a resident of Kibira B Zone, Wassajja Ward, Makindye Division in Kampala, appeared before Kabale Chief Magistrate His Worship Derrick Byamugisha on Monday.
Court heard that in December 2024, while in Kampala, Akankwasa allegedly fraudulently and without any claim of right converted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, registration number UBS 085E, belonging to Deusdedit Musinguzi, with the intention of using it as security to obtain a loan from FIN Credit Uganda Limited.
When he appeared in court, Akankwasa applied for bail. However, the State Attorney opposed the application, arguing that his release could jeopardise ongoing investigations.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Byamugisha remanded Akankwasa to Ndorwa Government Prison until November 6, 2026, when he is expected to return to court for further proceedings.
