RUKUNGIRI: The Rukungiri Grade One Magistrate’s Court on Monday granted bail to the head teacher of Kebisoni Integrated Primary School, the PTA chairperson, and six committee members.
They are accused of collecting fees from pupils under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program.
Musasizi Herbert, along with PTA Executive members including Twesigye Paddy and Edith Ankunda, faces charges under Sections 9(1) and 4 of the Education Pre-Primary, Primary, and Post-Primary Act of 2008 CAP 247.
Prosecution told court that Musasizi levied fees from parents and guardians of pupils between January 2022 and July 2024 at Kebisoni Integrated Primary School.
Prosecution also told court that two pupils were sent away for non-payment during different periods.
The accused denied the charges but were granted bail of UGX 5 million each in non-cash terms, with two sureties providing UGX 7 million each.
The suspects are required to appear in court again on July 30, 2024, according to His Worship Mbalangu Gonzaga.
