KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic suicide of a 45-year-old man.
The deceased, identified as Caleb Turyahebwa, resided in Mirindi village, Eastern ward, Nyakabungo town council. For the past decade, he had worked as a casual laborer for Muhwezi Sulaiman, a 31-year-old businessman also residing in Mirindi village. The two had lived together harmoniously, with Caleb serving as Muhwezi’s herdsman.
The incident happened on Tuesday this week during the night hours at an unspecified time, as per the police statement. Caleb’s lifeless body was discovered yesterday around 8:00 AM, hanging inside the room where he slept, adjacent to the metallic door, with a rope tightly wound around his neck.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, confirmed the tragic event. He stated that the crime scene had been meticulously inspected and documented, witness testimonies collected, a postmortem examination conducted on-site, and the body subsequently released to the family for a dignified burial.
