KABALE: Authorities at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital are stuck with the bodies of two unidentified adult males who were lynched by angry mob in Kaharo Sub-county, Kabale District.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies are currently at the Kabale Regional Hospital Mortuary in Kabale District. He revealed that the men were lynched by an angry mob on Thursday at around 8:30 a.m. in Kaliba Village, Kaharo Parish, Kaharo Sub-county, Kabale District.
According to Maate, the two men, along with another unidentified person, had stolen items from a moving lorry on Wednesday night while at Kabaraga Hill. They waited until around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday for transport with the stolen goods, when local residents became suspicious. When questioned, the suspects could not explain their presence in Kabaraga or account for the property they had. They attempted to flee, but locals pursued them, catching and killing two of them in Kaliba Village.
Maate added that upon receiving the report, the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kaharo Police Station registered the case of mob justice and informed the District CID officer in Kabale. The CID officer, along with the Kabale homicide team and the District Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), responded to the scene.
The two bodies were retrieved and taken to Kabale Referral Hospital for post-mortem examination. Maate warned the public against engaging in criminal activities, particularly theft from moving vehicles, emphasizing that those caught would face the law.
He also called on anyone missing a family member to visit the hospital mortuary to help identify the deceased and arrange for a proper burial.
