KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District are searching for a suspect who allegedly trespassed into the home of Godfrey Kamugasha, 54, and seriously injured him in Butogota Town Council.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Friday at Rutwe Cell, Southern Ward, Butogota Town Council. The victim, Kamugasha, is an accountant at Kambuga Hospital.
According to Maate, an unknown intruder scaled the wooden fence at Kamugasha’s home and tampered with the padlock of the main house. Upon hearing the disturbance, Kamugasha, armed with a stick, opened the door and attempted to confront the suspect.
However, the intruder dodged the blow and retaliated, striking Kamugasha on the head with a sharp object. The suspect then climbed back over the fence and fled.
Local residents responded to Kamugasha’s alarm, and police arrived promptly, but the suspect had already escaped. Kamugasha was rushed to Victorious Medical Centre in Butogota, where he was admitted for treatment. A police sniffer dog was deployed at the scene, but no arrests have been made.
Maate added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspect for prosecution.
