KASESE: A Senior Four student from Kasese District has committed suicide by hanging, just days before the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Maate, was a resident of Mirami Village, Karambi Parish, in Karambi Sub-County, Bukonzo County West.
Maate took his life a day after the official briefing for the Uganda Certificate of Examinations, which are set to begin on Monday.
While the exact reason for his suicide remains unclear, Maate had been attending Karambi Senior Secondary School in the area.
According to Hawa Biira, the Vice Chairperson of Karambi Sub-County, Maate had woken up that morning, had breakfast with his relatives, and then hanged himself in his room.
Paddy Muhindo, the Chairperson of Karambi Sub-County, noted that preliminary reports indicated Maate had not attended the briefing session, as he had been suspended from school after impregnating a girl.
Muhindo urged young people to share their challenges with trusted individuals, emphasizing that no problem is too difficult to solve once shared.
The motive behind Maate’s tragic decision remains uncertain.
