KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District are investigating the murder of a 35-year-old man in Kambuga Sub County.
The deceased, identified as Simon Niwagaba, was a resident of Katungu cell, Eastern Ward, Kambuga Sub County, Kanungu District.
According to a police statement, Niwagaba allegedly stole items including cassava, a hen, a mattress, and matoke from various people in the area on Monday. This reportedly angered residents, who apprehended him and ultimately set him ablaze.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, said that police were notified and quickly responded to the scene but were unable to save Niwagaba. Maate said that Police officers from Kambuga Station documented the scene, and Niwagaba’s body was transported to Kambuga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Maate added that investigations are underway to identify those involved in the killing and ensure they are brought to justice.
