Kanungu Man Discovered Hanging in Chairperson’s Home

KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District have recorded the suicide by hanging of 41-year-old Abel Tugumizemu, a resident of Nyabihoko cell, Nyamigoyi parish in Kanyantorogo sub-county.

Reportedly, on October 21, 2023, around 6:00 PM, the deceased visited the home of the area chairperson, Benson Rwabihogo, expressing concerns about being followed.

Due to the late hour, the chairperson provided him a room to spend the night, intending to address the issue in the morning.

Tragically, the following morning, Tugumizemu was discovered hanging in the same room.

Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, confirms that the police were notified, visited the scene, and retrieved the body from the rope.

Dr. Yosamu of Kanyantorogo Health Center 3 conducted a postmortem at the scene, and the body was subsequently handed over to relatives for burial.
