KABALE – On Saturday 21, October 2023, Kabale University alumni initiated a convocation drive with the objective of purchasing a coaster bus to support the education of both gifted and disabled students.
The campaign kicked off with a 10-kilometer marathon around Kabale Municipality, bringing together former students (Alumni), Kabale University staff, and members of the local community. Participants, divided into running and walking categories based on factors such as age, donned sporting kits, including reflector jackets, caps, and T-shirts, purchased for the marathon.
Mr. Byamukama Isaiah Kanyamahane, the chairperson of the Kabale University Convocation and current Kamwenge District Resident District Commissioner (RDC), clarified that the primary goal was to raise funds for the coaster bus. The bus’s intended purpose is to generate income for the institution by offering it for hire to organizations and community members in need of transportation services.
Proceeds from the coaster bus project will be directed to the charity treasury of Kabale University, specifically supporting academically gifted female students and People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) who struggle to afford fees for higher education. Kanyamahane emphasized that the bus would also facilitate the transportation needs of university staff and students, especially those in the Sports Department.

According to Kanyamahane, the coaster bus is estimated to cost approximately Ugx. 300 million. He clarified that the University’s policy prohibits the purchase of reconditioned vehicles, and therefore, the convocation aims to raise funds for a brand-new coaster bus.
Mr. Kanyamahane stated that the convocation campaign for the procurement of the coaster bus will persist until the required funds are fully realized.
