KISORO: Police in Kisoro District have arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly killing his 64-year-old father during a dispute over one and a half kilograms of meat in Mupaka Town Council.
The suspect, identified as Jay Ntwari, is accused of killing his father, Nsenga John, a resident of Kinanira Cell, Central Ward, Mupaka Town Council. According to police reports, Ntwari allegedly struck his father on the head with a stick after Nsenga injured his son’s ear with a panga (machete).
The incident reportedly began on Saturday, February 1, 2025, when Nsenga hosted visitors at his home. He purchased one and a half kilograms of meat, which his wife, Niringiyimana Brandinah, cooked and served. The meat was consumed entirely that day.
However, on Sunday, February 2, 2025, around noon, Brandinah prepared beans, Irish potatoes, and matooke. When she served her husband, Nsenga refused to eat, insisting that he wanted meat, despite being told it had been finished the previous day. Frustrated, he allegedly threw the food away.
Shortly after, Ntwari returned home from fetching water and found his father quarreling with his mother. Upon putting down the jerrycan, Nsenga allegedly attacked Ntwari with a panga, demanding to know where the meat was. In the process, Nsenga reportedly cut Ntwari’s ear, injuring him.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stated that Nsenga later went to Mupaka Border Police Post to report his son for assault. He was issued a police medical form for examination. However, upon arriving at Kinanira Health Center III, Nsenga collapsed. He was immediately transferred to Mutolere Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Maate confirmed that Ntwari was arrested and is currently in custody. Upon the completion of police investigations, he will be presented before the court to face charges accordingly.
