AMURIA – Police in Amuria district have rescued a 53-year-old man, Otude James, from an enraged mob after he assaulted and raped his 100-year-old biological mother on September 8, 2023, around 11 PM in Olitoi cell, Asamuk Trading Centre.
The suspect, who lived in the same homestead as his mother, was leading a solitary life after separating from his wife. Upon returning home at around 11 PM, he found his mother already asleep in her grass-thatched house and forcibly entered through the frail door.
He restrained his mother by tying her hands with a mosquito net and immediately committed the heinous act of rape.
Following this disgraceful incident, he left his mother in a weakened state. The matter was promptly reported to the police, and the victim was rushed to Asamuk Health Centre for medical attention.
The suspect, too, had to be rescued from an angry mob and was transported to Asamuk Health Centre for treatment. Once he has recovered, he will face charges of rape and incest.
SCP Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson, underscored the importance of respecting and safeguarding elders in society, shielding them from all forms of elder abuse and preventing them from becoming vulnerable targets.
