Man Remanded Over Homosexuality in Kanungu.

KANUNGU – A 28-year-old man, Akim Kamugisha, has been remanded to prison in Kanungu District after being accused of multiple crimes, including Aggravated Trafficking in Persons, Trafficking in Persons, Rape, and Attempted Rape.

The incident came to light in July 2023 when Kamugisha a resident of Butogota central ward/ town council Kanungu district befriended Travor Nahabwe, a student residing in Butogota – Rutwe cell, Southern ward, Butogota town council.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the suspect allegedly lured Travor Nahabwe to a bar, where he bought him several bottles of alcohol before taking him to his residence. There, Kamugisha allegedly forced himself on the victim, committing an act of sodomy while secretly recording a video.

Fearing the consequences of exposing the incident, the suspect threatened Travor Nahabwe into silence. He was further victimized the following morning when Kamugisha called him back to his home and subjected him to another violent act of sodomy.

In an unexpected twist, another potential victim, Iragaba Brendan, came forward, stating that the suspect had deceived him into believing he had a job opportunity at Amber Heart of Great Singer Baby Cool. In his pursuit of the job, Iragaba Brendan fell into the suspect’s trap and almost became another victim of sexual assault. Thankfully, he managed to escape the ordeal.

Upon learning of these events, Brendan confronted Travor Nahabwe, who was still reeling from the trauma of repeated abuse. This conversation led to the revelation of Kamugisha’s involvement in homosexuality and the heinous acts he had perpetrated on both victims.

The case was promptly reported on the 28th of July 2023, resulting in the immediate arrest of Akim Kamugisha. A thorough investigation followed, and the crime scene was examined.

Kamugisha appeared before a court on the 3rd of August 2023 and has been remanded to Kanungu prison until the 17th of August 2023 for mention.
