Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Moses Byekwaso, a resident of Maheru Cell, Nyarurambi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub County in Rukiga District.
According to Maate, Byekwaso, who worked as a night watchman at a bar owned by Kyomugisha Agatha, reported for duty as usual on Tuesday around 6:00 p.m. At about 11:00 p.m., the bar owner closed up and went home.
During the night, unknown assailants reportedly attacked Byekwaso, assaulting him and cutting his right ankle. He was then strangled and hanged using a TV cable on the window’s burglar bars.
The police were notified by Agatha Kyomugisha, and the scene was visited, processed, and documented. Byekwaso’s body was taken to Kisizi Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Maate added that the body bore bruises, and a blood-stained panga was found at the scene and collected as evidence.
