SHEEMA: Police have confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects involved in the gruesome murder of a retired educationist in Sheema District.
Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke announced the development on Thursday evening, stating that the two new suspects were apprehended in Kyabugimbi and Kyamuhunga, following leads provided by suspects already in police custody.
Kituuma identified the suspects as Hanning Byesiza and Godious Nuwagaba. They are currently detained at Sheema Central Police Station, joining three suspects who had been arrested earlier, bringing the total number of suspects to five.
The other suspects are Magezi Victor, a 22-year-old herdsman for the deceased; Turyasingura Stuart, a 20-year-old herdsman; and Kato Stephen, a 17-year-old student and worker at the deceased’s home.
All five suspects are accused of the brutal murder of Nyehangane Godfrey Tabandama, a 72-year-old retired teacher and resident of Nyamiyaga Cell, Kakunyu Ward, Kabwohe Division, Sheema Municipality, on the night of September 18–19, 2024.
The late Nyehangane was the father of Natumanya Andrew, also known as Tabz, the former Chief Photographer for the National Unity Platform Party, led by Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.
In a statement on Thursday, Kyagulanyi expressed deep sorrow, noting that the tragedy is even more painful for Tabz and his siblings, who lost their mother in December 2022.
He added that the late Nyehangane was a close friend who frequently hosted NUP officials at his home when they visited the Bushenyi area and neighboring districts.
