Police in Rukiga district have arrested seven suspects who allegedly assaulted a 37 year-old-man in Rwamucucu Sub County.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region police Spokesperson has identified the deceased as Julius Turihabwe a resident of Rushebeya-Nyakarambi village, Kitojo parish, Rwamucucu Sub County in Rukiga district who was assaulted and died instantly.
Maate alleges that the deceased has been a serial offender/ thief in the village and on Tuesday 20/12/2022 at around 10:00 Am, one Ignetius realized that his rabbits had been stolen and he suspected Julius now the deceased to have stolen them.
Maate says that Ignatius immediately moved up hill at the home of the deceased and found when he was in his home and he searched the house and found when indeed the suspected rabbit’s meat in the saucepans.
Maate asserts that Ignatius tied the deceased and descended with him to their trading center at Rushebeya together with the boiled suspected meat in the saucepan.
Maate adds, when he reached there, the mob untied him, assaulted him seriously and after which at around 2:00 Pm, Ignatius escorted him to his house (deceased) and dumped him there.
He added that when his father returned from his usual duties, he was informed of the assault of his son Julius and he went to check on him, and found him dead.
According to Maate, the Father to the deceased reported the matter to the area chairperson local council three Honorable Mugisha Eddie who also informed Rukiga Central Police Station and they responded to the scene.
He confirmed that scene was visited on Wednesday the 21/12/2022, processed and documented, postmortem was also done and 7 suspects were arrested to aid in investigations.
A statement on murder by Mob has been registered at Rukiga Central Police Station under reference number CRB 648/2022.
