Police in Rukungiri District are actively hunting for the suspect(s) involved in the alleged murder of 63-year-old Mauda Kobusingye, a resident of Kanyanya Cell, Rwentondo Ward, Eastern Division in Rukungiri Municipality
The incident occurred on Tuesday night of July 8, 2025, at an unknown time, at the victim’s residence.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was carrying out her normal house chores earlier in the day. At night, while at home with a 14-year-old juvenile, Roland Akankwasa, who is mentally challenged and the only other person staying with her, an unidentified man is reported to have suddenly appeared, grabbed the deceased by the neck and ordered the boy to leave the house.
The juvenile complied and went to spend the night at a neighbor’s home. The following morning, upon his return, the boy discovered Mauda Kobusingye lying in a pool of blood, having been stabbed.
He immediately raised an alarm, attracting neighbors who reported the matter to Rukungiri Police Station.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson says that Police visited and documented the scene, took relevant statements, and deployed a K9 unit.
However, Maate says efforts were frustrated as family members had already mopped the bedroom and cleaned the deceased’s body, compromising the scene.
He said that the the body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
He appealed to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) to come forward and share it with police.
He said that all information will be treated with utmost confidentiality as investigations are ongoing.
