Gifted Heart Medical Center has officially opened its first healthcare facility in Ayul “A” Cell, Pager Division, along Palabek Road in Kitgum Municipality, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to affordable and compassionate healthcare services in the region.
The new center is tailored to serve the healthcare needs of local residents by offering a range of services including outpatient care, specialist consultations, maternal and child health services, major and minor surgeries, chronic disease management, counseling, and laboratory tests such as CBC, liver and kidney function tests.
The facility also houses a well-stocked pharmacy and family care unit.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Gaspus Ouma, Medical Director of Gifted Heart Medical Center, emphasized the organization’s commitment to bringing quality and affordable healthcare closer to underserved communities.
“This facility reflects our mission to ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to accessing reliable and professional medical care,” Dr. Ouma said.
Rev. Fr. Joel Okot, who presided over the opening ceremony, commended the initiative, highlighting the center’s potential to serve the vulnerable and low-income populations. He encouraged residents to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health, rather than waiting for divine intervention.
“We must help ourselves when it comes to health. Let’s not wait for miracles—we have a role to play,” he urged.
Hon. Oyoo Morish Santo, LC3 Chairperson for Pager Division, welcomed the development, noting the long-standing gap in health infrastructure within the area.
“This is the first facility of its kind in our Division. Until now, we’ve relied on St. Joseph Hospital, and the pressure on public health centers has been overwhelming,” Hon. Oyoo said.
He also appealed to the medical team, led by Dr. Robert (surname not provided), to establish referral partnerships with other hospitals and pledged local government support where needed.
The launch of Gifted Heart Medical Center comes at a critical time, as the municipality continues to grapple with increasing healthcare demands and limited infrastructure.
The facility is expected to ease the burden on existing health centers and contribute to better health outcomes for the people of Kitgum.
