KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District are on the hunt for a suspect identified only as Sam, who allegedly fought and killed 21-year-old Derrick Ainebyona before fleeing the scene.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that on Wednesday around 11:00 AM at Ibambiro village, Rusoroza parish, Kihihi sub-county in Kanungu District, Derrick was at the house of his friend Godwin and was being attended to by Judith, a close acquaintance. Sam confronted Derrick, leading to an argument that escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, Sam overpowered Derrick, killing him instantly.
The matter was immediately reported to the area LC 1 Chairman of Ibambiro village, Swaibun Bahati, who then alerted the police. A team of detectives and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) visited and documented the scene. Derrick’s body was recovered and transported to Kihihi Health Center mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Maate has appealed to the public for information on the whereabouts of the suspect, urging anyone with relevant details to inform the police so that Sam can be apprehended and charged accordingly.
