Police in Rubanda District have arrested Matius Turihohabwe, a resident of Kanaaba A Village in Bubaare Town Council, on suspicion of murder and torture.
Turihohabwe is accused in connection with the death of his 10-year-old daughter, Fortunate Natumanya, and the alleged torture of his 13-year-old son, Robert Owomugisha. Both children were pupils at Kitagyenda Primary School.
According to reports, on Saturday at around 9 PM, Turihohabwe allegedly beat the two children severely, causing them to lose consciousness. He reportedly accused Owomugisha of stealing Irish potatoes.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and said Turihohabwe is being held to assist with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, Owomugisha is receiving treatment at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
