The First National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Alhajji Moses Kigongo, and the party Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong on Sunday convened a meeting with the newly elected district, city, and municipality chairpersons.

They were joined by the NRM Vice Chairman for the Western Region and Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi. The party leadership congratulated the new chairpersons on their election and encouraged them to champion the party’s vision and development agenda.

The three-day meeting, held at Hotel Africana in Kampala under the theme “Strengthening Leadership and Accountability for Enhanced Service Delivery,” focused on empowering the new leaders with strategic guidance.

In his address, Alhajji Kigongo urged the chairpersons to remain adaptable and pragmatic in their leadership approach.

“Many people are interested in joining the NRM. Don’t turn them away welcome them. The NRM is a mass party that accommodates everyone,” he emphasized.

Kigongo warned against indiscipline, particularly the trend of members running as independents after losing in party primaries.

He stated that such actions would not be tolerated, as they undermine party unity and coherence.

Meanwhile, Secretary General Todwong revealed plans to amend the Local Government Act to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures.

“We intend to propose amendments to the Local Government Act so that all NRM chairpersons from the village to the district level are recognized as ex-official members,” he said.
