Rukiga Man Arrested for Trespassing in Married Couple’s Home at Night

RUKIGA: Police in Rukiga District have arrested a 33-year-old man, Aguma Arinaitwe, on charges of criminal trespass after he was found in the home of Bruce Mucunguzi under suspicious circumstances.

Aguma, a casual worker from Bushenyi district, had reportedly been visiting Penina Katushabe, Bruce’s wife.

According to reports, Aguma went to Penina’s home on Wednesday night at around 11 PM, despite being warned not to come because her husband had returned early from work.

Bruce, a power saw operator, usually stayed out late due to his job, but that night he had come home earlier than expected. Aguma, who hadn’t answered Penina’s calls, proceeded as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

Confidently entering the house, Aguma removed his gumboots and quietly slipped into the bedroom, expecting to find Penina alone. However, it was Bruce who was lying in bed, completely unaware of Aguma’s approach.

Startled by someone touching him, Bruce immediately realized that there was an intruder and without hesitation, he raised an alarm, waking the neighbors and engaged in a brief struggle with Aguma.

Bruce overpowered Aguma and held him until the neighbors arrived to witness the situation. The commotion attracted a furious crowd, who quickly gathered outside the house.

According to Police statement, emotions ran high as the mob threatened to lynch Aguma, but the police arrived in time to rescue him from the angry crowd. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that Officers arrested Aguma into custody and escorted him to safety, preventing the situation from escalating further.

Maate said that investigations into the incident are ongoing stating that the case has been registered at Rukiga Central Police station under case number CRB/342/24.
