Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances under which a 40-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life in Rugando Village, Nyakinengo Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, according to police.
The deceased have been identified as Tushabirane Cosma, 40, and his wife, Ayebare Speria, 34, both residents of Rugando Village.
According to police, the couple’s three children had been sent to church. When they returned home, they found all the doors locked from inside.
Police said the eldest child became suspicious and forced open one of the doors, only to find their father’s body hanging from a rope.
The matter was reported to police, who responded and searched the house. Officers found the body of Ayebare in the bedroom lying in a pool of blood.
The bodies were taken to Rwakabengo Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.
Police spokesperson for Kigezi Region, SP Nelson Tumushime, said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths are ongoing.
