Rukungiri Teacher Drowns in River Mineera, Body Still Missing

RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri are searching for the body of a primary teacher who allegedly drowned in River Mineera.

According to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson the deceased has been identified as Michael Tumwesigye a teacher at Kebisoni integrated primary school, and a resident of Migyera village, Nyarushanje Sub county who drowned at Mineera bridge in Rwankoma village, Kebison town council Rukungiri district.

Maate said that on 23/11/2022 at about 0800am, information was received at Kebisoni police station that there was suspected drowning by unknown person who was riding a motorcycle reg.no. UDM 665D which was recovered and parked at Omukiyenje police station.

Maate  confirmed that investigations on the same matter have commenced, and  police have temporarily close the said road to avoid more fatalities.

The search for the missing person (Tumwesigye) is still ongoing as inquiries are also at hand.

The case of Death by Drowning has been registered at Kebisoni Police Station under reference number SD 04/23/11/2022.
