Seven Cell Guards Arrested After Suspects Escape from Sheema Prison

SHEEMA: Police in Sheema District have arrested seven cell guards for questioning regarding the escape of suspects from prison while they were on duty.

Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the cell guards on Thursday. Without disclosing their identities, Tumusiime stated that the guards were supposed to man the cells but exhibited negligence, leading to the escape of the suspects.

The guards have been charged with neglect of duty, detained at Sheema Central Police Station in Sheema Municipality, and will be arraigned in court to answer the charges accordingly.

Tumusiime identified the eight escaped suspects as Akampa Jocknius, Matovu Hakim, Mukasa Aggrey, Asingwire Musinguzi, Byamukama Ambrose, Mpumwire Benson, Tugume Ashraf, and Accum Clinton. He said they escaped from the cells on Thursday at around 3:20 AM through the aluminum louvers on the toilet window.
