Police in Kyegegwa District have registered a major breakthrough in the investigation of a brutal triple murder, thanks to swift community action and the outstanding work of a police canine.
Police in Rwenzori West Region are investigating the murder of three people at Karokalungi LC I, Kyamagaba Parish, Nkanja Sub-county, Kyegegwa District, which occurred on 7th October 2026.
The deceased have been identified as Kansiime Christine, 28, her daughter Miracle, aged one year and three months, and Joan A, 19, a domestic worker.
According to SP Twesige Vicent, the PRO for Rwenzori West Region, the crime was discovered on 8th October 2026 at around 1:00 pm when a concerned neighbour visited the home to check on the family and found their bodies. She immediately alerted other neighbours who preserved the scene and notified the Police.
Officers from Kyaka II Police Station responded quickly, with reinforcement from Kyegegwa Central Police Station.
In a display of professional crime scene management, the scene was found well preserved. The Police Canine Unit was deployed and sniffer dog Bruno was introduced to the scent.

Following the canine-led operation, Police have arrested two suspects who are currently in custody to help with investigations.
SP Twesige commended the community for their vigilance and quick reporting, and the officers for their rapid response, saying inquiries are ongoing to establish full circumstances and ensure justice for the victims.
