Police in Ntungamo District have arrested a man suspected of hacking his five-year-old stepdaughter to death following a domestic dispute with his wife.

The suspect, identified as Asiimwe Felix, was arrested after the body of Amuron Christine was discovered on Friday morning in Rwera Cell, Kitashekwa Ward, Kakukuru in Rwenanura Town Council.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 12:15am on October 9, 2026, following a domestic altercation between the suspect and his wife, Tumushabe Agnes, also known as Narurungi.

Rwiizi Regional Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira said preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been experiencing domestic disagreements.

Police said the couple had reportedly gone to a bar on Thursday evening, October 8, where the suspect allegedly quarrelled with other people before returning home with his wife.

Their daughter, who had been sleeping in the bedroom, reportedly intervened in an attempt to stop the fight.

The mother later left the house and sought shelter in a neighbour’s home, leaving the suspect and the child behind.

Police said the suspect subsequently went to the home of another resident, identified as Twetise Juliet, while looking for his wife.

When Twetise asked him about blood stains on his clothes, he reportedly remained silent and left.

Concerned by the encounter, Twetise went to the family’s home on Friday morning, only to find the child’s lifeless body lying outside an unoccupied neighbouring house.

Kasasira said police established that the child had sustained multiple blows to the head from a blunt object, resulting in severe skull injuries.

Kasasira said the case had been registered as murder by hacking, adding that inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death were ongoing.

The incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence, particularly for children caught up in conflicts between adults.

Police have urged the public to seek peaceful ways of resolving domestic disputes and to report violence before it escalates into serious harm.
