Son Arrested For Allegedly Killing Father in Rukungiri

RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District have apprehended a 33-year-old Atukwatse Lenato, also known as Ronald, for the alleged murder of his 61-year-old biological father, Byebiroha Nesiforo.

Both were residents of Karuhara cell, Ndago parish, Nyarushanje sub county, Rukungiri district.Reportedly, on August 19, 2023, around 11:00 PM at Karuhara cell, Ndago parish, Nyarushanje sub county, Rukungiri district, Atukwatse Lenato alias Ronald fatally assaulted his biological father using a blunt object.

The deceased, the suspect, and Kitaragabirwe Beatrice (the deceased’s wife) lived together in the same house.

Lenato would often return home late at night, forcibly entering the house, leading to confrontations with the deceased. These confrontations escalated, with Lenato issuing threats to his father.

On August 19, 2023, around 12:00 PM, Kitaragabirwe Beatrice left both her husband and son at home and went to Nyarushanje Catholic church for prayers.

When she returned home on August 20, 2023, around 1:00 AM, she discovered Byebiroha Nesiforo dead in a pool of blood between the kitchen and their main house. Lenato was not present at home. She alerted local residents, who detained Lenato upon his return.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the incident was reported by Amutuhire Mathias.

The crime scene was examined and documented, the suspect was apprehended and held at Rukungiri CPS, and the body was transferred to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem analysis.
