Police are overwhelmed by the increasing cases of suicide in the Kigezi Sub-region.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, without disclosing the exact statistics, said on Monday that cases of suicide are on the rise in the region, particularly among the male population.

SP Tumushime made the remarks after two separate cases of suicide involving adult men were reported on the same day.

The first case involved a 57-year-old teacher who was found hanging with a rope tied around his neck inside his bathroom in Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District. The deceased was identified as Kamari James, a resident of Kashija Cell in Rubuguri Town Council.

The second case involved a 53-year-old businessman who was found hanging near his banana plantation in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District. The deceased was identified as Turyahikayo Milton, a resident of Nyakaina Ward. He had reportedly gone missing on Sunday night, prompting relatives and residents to launch a search before his body was discovered the following morning.
