WAKISO – Police in Wakiso District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning of 9-year-old Moses Kusasira, a pupil at Busabala Primary School.
The incident occurred on August 8th, 2023, at around 1:00 PM, as he and his 6-year-old sister, Joy Angel Namanya, swam along Lake Victoria’s shores. Despite warnings from their father, Kyakuwa Moses, a 46-year-old Boda-Boda rider, against swimming without adult supervision, Kusasira drowned.
The case of suspected drowning has been registered at Kibiri Police Station and is currently under investigation. The Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) visited the site, gathering evidence and details. Moses Kusasira’s body has been sent to the city mortuary for autopsy, and Joy Angel Namanya, the surviving sibling, is receiving medical care at Mulago Hospital.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, emphasized the importance of proper supervision during water-related activities, urging parents and guardians to prioritize children’s safety.
Owoyesigyire said that relevant witnesses, including the biological father, have provided statements, and ongoing inquiries aim to uncover more information about the incident
