RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri are currently investigating a tragic incident involving the alleged assault of a 46-year-old woman, leading to her untimely demise.
The deceased, identified as Maria Busingye, resided in Nyakasa village, Ibanda Parish, Nyarushanje Sub County, while the suspect, Richard Rukuunya, also known as Sanyu, hails from the same area.
According to Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi Region Police, the altercation occurred on Sunday around 8:30 PM, escalating into a physical confrontation between the suspect and his wife. Kyarimpa Diana, a neighbor, intervened to help during the altercation.
Following the altercation, the deceased sought refuge at Kyarimpa Diana’s residence for the night, without receiving medical attention. It was only on Monday, after relatives were informed, that she was taken to Rubabo Medical Centre Clinic, where tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.
