IBANDA – In Ibanda district, a case of alleged suicide by poison has been registered involving Akankunda Scovia, also known as Nalongo, a 35-year-old Munyankore woman.
She worked at Ibanda Central Market and resided in Kafunjo cell, Bufanda ward, Bufanda Division, Ibanda Municipality.
The deceased, a member of Depth Ministries Church led by Pastor Bukenya Daniel, had entrusted her savings of 16,000,000/= with him.
However, when she requested her money, the pastor claimed she had saved only 800,000/=.
After reporting the matter to Ibanda Central Police Station on 06/11/2023, the pastor remained unresponsive to calls, and the deceased was advised to seek legal redress in civil courts.
In a tragic turn of events, she went back to the pastor the next day, consumed poison in front of him, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the nearest clinic.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s body was taken to Ruhoko Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem.
