He emphasized that the census encompasses not only the enumeration of individuals but also factors pertinent to their economic, social, political, and religious well-being.

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the census exercise commenced today Friday May 10 to 19, 2024, with the use of digital technology to collect, process, and disseminate census results to produce accurate and timely demographic, social, and economic statistics.
In December 2023, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni launched the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) 2024 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Every 10 years, Uganda holds a national census, and the last one was carried out in 2014. According to UBOS, the country’s current population is estimated at 45.5 million, with a growth rate of 30.4 percent.
The Census 2024 is the sixth such exercise to be conducted since Uganda gained independence in 1962. In particular, it will be the third to be conducted by UBOS, which was established by an Act of Parliament in 1998, and it will be the first paperless census.”
