Abel Bizimana, who came fourth in the July 17th NRM primaries for Bufumbira East Constituency in Kisoro District, has picked nomination forms to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.
Bizimana, who polled 588 votes out of 31,697 cast, lost to Roland Kanaya Nkurumah who secured 12,756 votes. The seat is currently held by Dr. James Nsababuturo.
While picking nomination forms on Tuesday, Bizimana who is also the Kisoro District LC5 Chairman alleged that the NRM primaries were marred by vote-buying, intimidation, and harassment of voters. He announced that he had distanced himself from the ruling party and unveiled a new political identity, PSM, with a microphone as its election symbol, which he said would “cleanse the disorganized NRM.”
He expressed confidence in the Electoral Commission, saying the 2026 general elections would be free and fair since secret ballots would curb commercialization of votes. He pledged to prioritize urbanization and improved service delivery if elected.
