The Member of Parliament for Bufumbira North, Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, has officially declared his intention to challenge Dr. Philemon Mateke for the position of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman for Kisoro District in the upcoming party elections.
Nizeyimana made the announcement on Friday while addressing members of the Kisoro United Journalists Association (KUJA) at his business center located in Gatovu B Village, commonly known as Nyakinama, in Nyakinama Sub-county, Kisoro District.
In his address, Nizeyimana emphasized his commitment to upholding the NRM’s four core principles—Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy. He stated that these principles are critical to promoting prosperity for all Ugandans but can only be fully realized by prioritizing common interests over identity-based politics.
The MP also encouraged local journalists to actively participate in income-generating activities. He advised them to invest part of their monthly earnings into small businesses as a way of achieving financial independence and long-term stability.
“Journalists play a vital role in our society and should be recognized and respected for their contributions. However, financial independence is equally important,” he said.
Nizeyimana further urged journalists to reduce daily spending on market food by growing their own vegetables such as dodo (amaranth), eggplants, cabbages, and bananas. He warned that frequenting the market daily for food is an unsustainable habit and advised adopting home-based food production to cut expenses.
