BUSHENYI: Ex-MP Aspirant Granted Bail in Defilement and Abortion Case

BUSHENYI: The Bushenyi High Court has granted a cash bail of 10 million shillings to Kenneth Akanduhura Mugooha, a former aspirant for the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality Member of Parliament, who is facing accusations of defiling, impregnating, and procuring an abortion for his 15-year-old housemaid.

Akanduhura, aged 35, was arrested on April 17, 2024, by CID officials following orders from the Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Balam Barugahara, after the girl’s distressing story aired on television.

Her relatives accused Akanduhura of defiling her in Kyeitembe East Ward, Bushenyi-Ishaka, assisting in the abortion, and then abandoning her.

The alleged incident took place in February 2024, when Akanduhura reportedly broke into the girl’s room in Kyeitembe East Ward, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, sexually assaulted her, and threatened her to prevent her from reporting the crime.

Despite the accusations, Akanduhura has denied any wrongdoing.

During his appearance before the Bushenyi High Court on Monday, Resident Judge Amos Kwizera granted him bail, requiring a cash payment of 10 million shillings and a non-cash bond of 15 million shillings.

Akanduhura is also required to report to the court every two weeks.
