KASESE: Concerned parents in Kitsutsu Village, Munkunyu Sub County, Bukonzo East in Kasese District have called for stricter penalties for youth who engage in inappropriate dressing within the community.
The parents believe that improper dress codes have led some young people into inappropriate relationships, which in turn have resulted in early pregnancies and marriages.
They also claim that this is one of the reasons their sub-county continues to face rising cases of defilement, rape, and other forms of gender-based violence. Because of this, they are urging local leaders to start imposing penalties on those who dress inappropriately.
Mr. Ronald Kato, the Director of Kasese Youth Link for Development, a community-based organization in Kasese District, suggests that these issues can be addressed through community stakeholder engagements and career guidance sessions. He also encouraged community members to prioritize saving, adopting improved farming practices, and focusing on education as key tools to improve household economies.
Speaking to a gathering of youth and community members at Kitsutsu Primary School in Munkunyu Sub County, Kato emphasized that a culture of saving and practicing commercial farming can provide the necessary funds to support children’s education. “Save your earnings, adopt improved farming methods, and educate your children for a brighter future,” he advised.
According to Mr. Kato, leaders and parents must collaborate to ensure that children receive the education they deserve.
Tito Paul, a community volunteer at Kasese Youth Link for Development, called on school dropouts, single mothers, and unemployed youth to acquire valuable skills. He highlighted that Kasese Youth Link is offering training in tailoring, crafts, and other skills, with the potential to gain productive expertise in just six months.
“Take advantage of this opportunity to gain skills that can empower you,” he urged.
