KISORO – A dispute has erupted between Kisoro district leadership and Kisoro Municipal council over the suspension of ongoing activities at Saaza playground in Kisoro municipality.
The disagreement stems from the Kisoro town clerk Ayub Kisubi instructing Hamza Kent Rwendeye to demolish developments on government land, citing them as unplanned and illegal.
Kisubi, in a letter dated 29th January, asserted that the ongoing development lacks an approved plan from the council, violating section 33(1) of the Physical Planning Act as amended in 2020. Last year, Kisoro district council had granted Rwendeye permission to establish a 5-meter road at Saaza playground to facilitate access to his residence.
Accusing Kisoro Municipal council of uninformed intervention, Southern Division District councilor James Agaba clarified that the council had granted permission for the 5-meter road to benefit the local community. He emphasized the legitimacy of the developments.

Kisoro district LCV Chairman Abel Bizimana alleged that the decision to halt the playground developments is politically motivated. He insisted that municipal authorities should have consulted his office before taking such action.
