KABALE: Following International Women’s Day, Dr. Isabella Epiu, a senior lecturer at Kabale University School of Medicine in the Department of Anesthesia, has emphasized the necessity for the government to make substantial investments in research and provide support for women passionate about sciences.
This, she believes, would serve as a promotional strategy to encourage more females to pursue careers in the science field.
Dr. Epiu, the first Ugandan anesthesiologist with a PhD and the first East African female Anesthesiologist with a PhD, made this call during an interview with our reporter in Kabale town. She highlighted that to promote sciences among Ugandan women, the government should enhance the budget for research and provide support to students passionate about science but facing limited resources.
She argued that this strategy would not only increase the number of experts in the science fields but also mitigate the issue of brain drain in the country.
Encouraging female students who often perceive sciences as challenging, Dr. Epiu urged them to exhibit high levels of devotion and commitment towards science, driven by their own passion for science courses.
